Winter’s Bone Creation

Blackberry Winter Band

A folk/old-time band formed by Sisco and fellow musicians during the making of Winter’s Bone. The group “coalesced” at the request of director Debra Granik to perform Ozark music for the film’s soundtrack. The resulting soundtrack album was widely acclaimed for its authentic Ozarks sound, featuring “honey-sweet harmonies… sprinkled with tasty pickin’ from veteran local musicians.

Ozark Storyteller

Meredeth Sisco

Singer, songwriter, folklorist, and the driving force behind Juneapple. Sisco is best known as the haunting voice featured in the Oscar-nominated film Winter’s Bone (2010). A true “Missouri Master Storyteller”, she also hosts the popular public radio series These Ozarks Hills on KSMU-FM, sharing Ozark history and culture. Sisco serves as Juneapple’s founder and A&R director, and has recorded both with her band and as a solo artist.

The Songbird Soprano

Linda Stoffel

A vocalist and longtime bandmate of Sisco, known for her high-range “songbird” soprano. Linda was a member of Blackberry Winter and took center stage with her solo debut album Songbird (2012), which became Juneapple’s inaugural release. The album earned high praise – her “sweet soprano is at its best in this moving collection” that ranges from jazzy torch songs to “tasteful twang,” backed by instrumentals from Blackberry Winter’s players.

Missouri Banjo Master

Van Colbert

another Blackberry Winter veteran. Van is renowned for his old-time clawhammer banjo style and Missouri master status; he and his brothers even released a family band album on the Juneapple label titled Songs Little Vernie Ain’t Stole Yet.
